BOOK REVIEW- Weyward by emilia hart

1.5 stars

I read this book hoping it would get me out of a book slump, and it sadly did the opposite.

This book promises to be hopeful and uplifting, and a magical tale of empowered women woven together across time. In my opinion, it was none of these things. It was, in fact, about three women who were treated horribly by men and happened to be from the same family and like bugs.

I found this book incredibly boring, and downright depressing. There was no message of hope, no redemption arc, and really no point. Again, the entire book is essentially about how awful men are. After about 100 pages, that gets old. I had no connection to any of the characters, just couldn't bring myself to get invested.

This book also contains some tough topics (SA, pregnancy, unwanted pregnancy) and they are things that I never enjoy reading about. I wish I had a better idea of what this story was about and where it was leading, because I would have known it wasn't for me.

Other reviewers have stated that they couldn't get past the ick, and I personally agree. There was a major point of "men are monsters, only use them to continue the family line" and that was the final nail in the coffin for me.

I personally didn't see this book as a feminist anthem, but others have been finding it enjoyable and empowering.
